Water Conservation.

Water conservation increases a landscape site’s ability to thrive amid drought conditions, water use restrictions and the rising cost of municipal water and to be a responsible guardian of nature in the process.  The scope of this section is to present a wide range of water conservation strategies. 

Xeriscaping is landscaping designed to help alleviate the burden metropolitan demand imposes on a precious natural resource - water. Drawing from the Greek root word xeros, meaning dry, Xeriscaping is the use of any or all of the following seven practices for making a landscape more water-efficient: planning and design, soil analysis, appropriate plant selection, practical turf areas, efficient irrigation, use of mulches and appropriate maintenance.^[1]

Xeriscaping practices are generally easy to implement in the residential or commercial landscape.  These Xeriscaping practices fall within four basic water conservation strategies:
